Daniel is a musician, blacksmith, and painter who lives in Riondel, BC, Canada. Although he’s dabbled in visual arts for his entire life, he only started painting ‘seriously’ in 2007. His paintings generally fall into three categories: portraits, abstracts, and narrative paintings.
His narrative works suggest a message or story for which the viewer gets to fill in the details and create his or her own meaning.
The abstracts (and some narrative paintings as well) are brought about by the intuitive painting techniques taught by Ted Wallace. It allows the painter to open up to the moment to moment experience of applying ideas and feeling to the canvas, and letting the painting develop in a natural way.
One unique technique Daniel uses is mixing iron oxide dust (the waste from shining up steel) with medium to create a totally unique colour and texture. He's also been known to mix powders with his paint for bright surreal effects.
Daniel’s showings include the Eye Piqued show in Creston, a solo show called Exposed in Kootenay Bay, and as part of the Winter Garden Art Shows, Gray Creek, several shows at the Redfish in Nelson, and the Bohemia Cafe, Edmonton. Daniel has sold about two thirds of the paintings he’s produced so far.
